Last year I wrote an article on some of the hottest albums from Tanzania..it was a very short list with top tier musicians and tapes that are still rocking to this day;
this year I come bearing real goodies, curated by yours truly hear at Centennial Writes, what we present is the present and the future, genre bending artistes, with soul and rock-star tendencies, who are definitely taking over the hearts and charts, and you should be on the lookout!
Itare
When we first heard itare's music, we knew he was that guy who would be pushing boundaries and
experimenting with sounds, his journey from "Call On Me" to his current smashing single "Dada We", has been a fantastic cross genre trip to all who have been listening to him with thirst for more from itare.
He is most definitely an artist to keep an ear out for.
Twiddie
She's hot and she's coming, who knew that the Tanzanians in the diaspora can make noise inside and outside our borders. Female rapper Twiddie is also a student who has shown her ability over and
over as she draws inspirations from places all the world, her story is that of a notebook, hot lyrics and instagram reels until she hit the studio and dropped her first single "Twerk", her evolution then takes her to her current UK type drill, "My Condo" which did over 3000 streams within the first quarter of releasing it.
If you haven't got a chance to bump to some of her high-life, rude-gyal feminine rap vibe , its never a bad time
Shully
Ahhhh!, have you ever tasted chicken soup for the soul, that's what it feels like listening to genius East African bred producer Shully, apart from working with giant names in the Tanzanian scenes the young producer has shown superior prowess by discovering his genre, Afro-Chill, this encompasses elements of Afro sounds infused with Lo-Fi qualities to produce a soothing melodic masterpiece, Afro-Chill volume one and volume two are available on all streaming platforms for us to enjoy this new wavelength of achievement for the artist and the scene.
Mejaway
If words could paint pictures, then Mejaway's verses should be hanged in galleries and museums, The stunning MC from the streets of Dar es Salaam has shown superior growth in his craft, and is now known for his slick deliveries and killer feature verses, his bi-lingual flow puts him in a position of leverage to be able to saturate his flavor and lyrics to all classes of people in his audience.
We have lately being seeing a lot of collaborative works from the artist with sure promise of a streak of smashing tracks in the future.

Eugken
In his case Eugken has mastered the art of showcasing his personality and projecting his dream and vision perfectly through his lyrics ,
he captures his city and hood with him in the middle of it so perfectly as if you were there in Mbezi with this electric artist talking about weather its love or space dynamics, with his pen-skill, cadence and flow he shows a promising fruit in the future for the Tanzanian music scene and taking it globally, his current works are up and doing numbers including amazing features with the likes of lilNason, Roscoe, MJB, and uncletsu.

Cooogie
Cooogie is an artist you'd put on during those long drives on a rainy day and feel like yeah ...it's great to be alive, or you can play him anywhere really....he currently meddles in Alternative, RnB, and Pop, where he writes and produces his own music;
we might know him from his smashing single from 2022, "Overdrive" or "Dar es salaam all day" then cooogie isn't the Artist you should be sleeping on.
MVNSA
Pronounced MANSA..., he's a Nigerien born rapper raised in Tanzania and now taking over the mama land at large, Fusion of old African sounds with modern metal is Mansa's way of painting his portraits, he derives his inspiration from different parts of Africa he grew up in like South Africa,
Ghana and Kenya to make his own soulful taste.
His current single "Twende" is a club banger that should definitely get on that party playlist you play for the gang every Friday.
The Tanzanian music scene is bubbling up, Artist with stores to tell, experiences to share and new milestones to conquer are rising up from all over the country, and you know what they say
"Taste is an acquired thing"
